AVONDALE, AZ – 4/26/15 – On Tuesday, April 26th one hundred American Airline employees will be volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona (HFHCAZ) at Hillcrest, a Habitat neighborhood located in Avondale. Spearheaded by Patrick O’Keeffe, American Airlines Vice President PSS & Corporate Technology, this venture demonstrates American’s continued commitment to the Phoenix community. O’Keeffe said, “Giving back to the community is important to all the employees of American Airlines. We are fortunate to work for American and giving a helping hand to local families in need is a great privilege. We feel that there is no better way to help than to provide housing for hardworking families.”
Many of the participants, have been on previous builds – some more than one. American Airlines and Habitat have been partners for the past twelve years, providing partner families housing solutions. In that time American Airlines employees have provided over 10,000 volunteer hours to Habitat for Humanity projects. American Airlines initially partnered with Habitat in 1997 and since that time has granted over half a million dollars to support affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization.
American is also a Breaking Ground Home Sponsor on the Lepe family home, currently under construction in Central Phoenix. American employees have been out since January working alongside the future homeowner as they build their forever home. The home is expected to be completed early June, 2016. O’Keeffe went on to say, “The opportunity to provide decent, affordable housing to individuals and families in need is a true call to action for those who work and live in the community. Unfortunately, good people struggle every day to make ends meet, and it is the duty of those of us who have been more fortunate to give back. There is no more basic need than shelter, and the fact that we can have a hand in providing that is very rewarding.”
