To support our global business strategy, and to enhance employees’ professional networks, Northern Trust sponsors a number of business resource councils (affinity groups) with an executive advisor. Each business resource council is employee-initiated, governed, and led. Membership is open to any Northern Trust employee in our global divisions who shares an affinity for the mission of the group.
Our Mission Statement:
The Black Business Resource Council (BBRC) was established to benefit both the membership and Northern Trust through personal and professional development, networking, and community involvement.

The Women in Leadership (WIL) Business Resource Council (BRC) aims to develop a culture of individual and organizational leadership that will enhance the execution of Northern Trust’s strategy and make a meaningful, measurable difference in the advancement of women at Northern Trust. This mission is achieved within the cultural context of each region and country. We are regionally and culturally diverse, with members from entry level to Management Group members. In a continuously changing world, WIL focuses teaching how we can have a positive impact in our company, community and our personal lives.
The mission of the L.I.F.E. Business Resource Council is to facilitate a safe and welcoming environment for all partners within which to celebrate the diverse beliefs, practices and religions that make up Northern Trust. The L.I.F.E. BRC encourages all Northern Trust Partners to serve each other, our clients, and the communities in which we live and work through 1) facilitating educational programs and open dialogue, 2) promoting inclusion, awareness and understanding, 3) providing opportunities for professional and personal growth and development.
The Working Families Business Resource Council was formed to provide a forum for parents, caregivers, potential parents and others affected by work/life balance challenges relating to their families. Additionally, WFBRC sponsors subject matter workshops/events, suggestions for policy improvements and acceptance, marketing for current policies and facilitates mentoring relationships for employee development and retention.
The NT Pride Business Resource Council’s mission is to create an inclusive working environment where all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexed partners and their allies (LGBTQIA+) are welcomed, celebrated and able to fulfill their potential. The NT Pride Business Resource Council acts as a source of support to all partners around LGBTQIA+ issues. We seek to help Northern Trust take full advantage of business opportunities in the LGBTQIA+ community and champion the recognition and visibility of LGBTQI+ partners’ and supporters’ contributions to Northern Trust’s success.
The Latin Heritage Leadership Council Tempe’s mission is to bring value to our members and organization through professional development and leadership opportunities, promoting Northern’s brand within the Latino Community, and giving back through community service and volunteer opportunities.
The mission of the Asian Leadership Business Resource Council (ALBRC) is to be a premier forum for partners of all background to engage and explore Asian cultures and build their skills and experiences to help integrate Diversity & Inclusion into Northern Trust’s business practices by recognizing and actively increasing the value and visibility of the Business Resource Councils (BRCs).
The Disability Business Resource (DBRC) is dedicated to prompting awareness education, and advocacy on disability-related issues to Northern Trust leaders, employees, clients, and citizens of the communities in which we do business – with a focus on ability. The DBRC is focused both on individuals with disabilities, as well as the caregivers of individuals with disabilities.
The Military Appreciation Business Resources Council aims to engage and benefit Military Service Members (both active duty and veterans) along with their families within Northern Trust and our surrounding communities by providing assistance and resources in networking, professional development, education, and community involvement while serving as a business resource.
The purpose of L.E.A.P. BRC shall be to provide tools and resources to support the development of an inclusive culture that values and leverages Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to achieve and sustain superior business results.
The Advancing Professionals Business Resource Council serves as a business resource to engage and benefit advancing professionals at Northern Trust by providing opportunities in networking, professional development, education, and community involvement.
