Leadership Excellence: During the COVID-19 crisis, Spear’s senior leadership team immediately put the needs of employees and customers first. Leadership made collective financial sacrifices to preserve headcount and focus on getting employees situated working remote. Within days Spear shifted to a 100% remote workforce while successfully keeping employees engaged and connected over the past several months through Teams chat, online support groups and bi-monthly CEO updates on the state of the business and strategic vision.
Workplace Culture: Spear partnered with Wellworks in 2019 to implement a Wellness program for all employees. From personalized incentive management and tracking, fitness device integration, health and mental wellbeing assessments, employee risk strategy, to e-learning with health coaching; the Wellworks portal provides employees with a comprehensive, user-friendly interface and mobile app to track their success throughout their wellness program.
Social Responsibility: The Spear team created Spear Cares to come together as an organization to give back to the community. In the last two years, Spear Cares raised and donated more than $7,000 for more than a dozen Arizona nonprofits, volunteered more than 100 hours, donated 300 meals to the less fortunate, and filled 300 backpacks with dental hygiene and school supplies for underserved children. The Spear Cares committee is open to all employees and meets monthly and they offer a paid day off each year for volunteer work.
Customer Opinion: Spear’s Patient Education tablet app received a Digital Health Awards, Spring 2019. When the app was released it reached the “Top 30 Medical Apps” in the iOS App Store Dental Product Shopper named Spear Online “Best Product” in its May 2017 issue. DPS gave a near-perfect rating of 4.8 out of 5 for “providing top-notch learning at a time and place that’s convenient for the clinician.”
Innovation: We quickly adapted to the changes COVID-19 brought to our business with the closure of the campus and the need to supply our members with the means to continue to meet and collaborate virtually. We rolled out virtual Study Clubs through a rapid delivery process in under 30 days and have also delivered virtual Spear seminars and panel discussions for our members. We launched the Practice Recovery program to help our members’ practices weather temporary closures during quarantines while helping them create a plan to emerge with a strategy that meets patient needs and positions their practice for future growth.
