How to Manage Employer Branding for Insurance

Q&A with Ashley Olson, Recruitment Marketing Manager, Farmers Insurance Group – one of Fortune Magazine’s Best Companies to Work for

To what do you attribute your company’s success?

Our employees are incredibly focused. They know that their work is important to people in need. As a result, this drives the success of Farmers as a whole.

Why do you think Employer Branding is important?

Farmers has an amazing culture, and without employer branding, no one would know it! Employer branding is important because it allows companies to share their culture and introduce opportunities to people beyond their office walls.

How would you describe your Employer Brand?

Insurance is a very old industry, and many people believe it is resistant to change. It’s our job to prove them wrong! Our employer brand dispels that stereotype and showcases Farmers as it is. Instead, people see us as innovative, empathetic, and full of opportunity.

What do you do in your recruitment process that you feel differs from other companies?

When we feel someone is the right fit for Farmers, we make sure they feel the same way about us too. In addition, we work to understand their expectations and paint a clear picture of Farmers ability to meet them.

What inspires you about your company’s mission statement?

Farmers truly cares about being present for people during some of the toughest times in their lives. For example, the way employees collaborate and volunteer out of work, tremendously inspires me. Knowing that I can help others get back on their feet after they’ve suffered a major loss motivates me and makes me proud to work for Farmers.

What is one thing in the common workplace that you think needs to change in order for companies to achieve ultimate success?

Over the years, Farmers does a great job of recognizing employees for their work. I think companies looking to excel should ensure they acknowledge employees whenever possible. It’s motivating when people celebrate your work.

What is unique about your company culture?

There is a strong desire in Farmers‘ employees to give back. As a result, we have a strong sense of community, and we are super supportive of one another.

Name three things you use to sell your company’s culture to potential employees.

  1. Employee resource groups – They are a great opportunity for employees to build their skillsets and get involved around the office.
  2. Volunteering – Farmers encourages employees to volunteer throughout the year. Some employees even have the opportunity to help rebuild communities that have been destroyed in natural disasters.
  3. Paid Time Off – To promote a healthy work culture, we believe employees should have e time away from the job responsibilities.
